Summer has officially begun and over the last month or so Cardiff has been flooded with music fans. The capital has seen performances from the likes of The Cure in Blackweir Fields, Take That in the Principality Stadium, and Katy Perry at Cardiff Castle as the summer gig season has well and truly kicked off.
With all these amazing events taking place in Cardiff, inevitably there is a lot of traffic that goes with it. As fans travel in to the city, commuters head home after work, and the roads close for the safety of those heading in to the events, there has been some congestion forming.
This weekend will be no different, as there are a handful of events all taking place on the same days and at the same times.
This includes the American rapper Pitbull, who will be headlining Blackweir Live, and Bowling for Soup and Frank Turner who will be performing at Cardiff Castle this Saturday, July 4.
Additionally, Cardiff Bay will see the annual food and drink festival taking place from Friday, July 3, until Sunday, July 5, and British comedian James Acaster will be performing three shows at the Wales Millennium Centre at the same time.
If you’re heading to these events, or just driving through Cardiff, you might be wondering what roads will be closed on these days and where to park.

Cardiff food and drink festival and James Acaster at WMC

There is plenty going on this weekend in Cardiff Bay as the annual food and drink festival kicks off on Friday, July 3, and runs until Sunday, July 5. Additionally, British comedian James Acaster will be taking to the stage of the Wales Millennium Centre on the same dates.
Road closures
There are no road closures in place in Cardiff Bay for this weekend but organisers of the food and drink festival anticipate congestion when driving to or from the festival due to the popularity of the event. As a result they have recommended that those attending travel to the event by different means if possible.
Where to park
Whilst there is some on-street parking, it is expected to be extremely busy in Cardiff Bay this weekend thanks to the food festival.
There are several paid car parking locations available including:
-
Havannah Street
-
The Q-Park multi-storey
-
Mermaid Quay multi-storey
These are all less than a 10-minutes walk away from the Wales Millennium Centre and Roald Dahl Plass where the food festival will be held.
Visit Cardiff have stressed that parking capacity will be limited in Cardiff Bay while the new multi-storey car park is being built at The Red Dragon Centre, so bare that in mind when travelling and perhaps consider public transport instead.
