JAKARTA – Charlotte Emma Aitchison, known by the stage name Charli XCX, is reportedly completing her eighth studio album in the midst of being busy filming a film in Kyoto, Japan.
Confirmation of this latest music project comes directly from the artist’s representative. In his statement, Charli XCX’s management team confirmed that the musician is in the final stages of completing his new work.
“All parties involved have consulted throughout the process. The credit for writing the song and the division of rights has been determined and agreed upon collectively in writing, with reference to the timeline and documented contributions,” said the management, quoted by Billboard, Tuesday, April 7.
Charli’s eighth album is predicted to bring a direction of musicality that is in contrast to previous works. If the album “Brat” is known for its thick club-pop feel, the upcoming work will be the antithesis of that style.
Producer Finn Keane, who worked with George Daniel and A.G. Cook, gave a glimpse of the drastic change.
“Some of the conversations we’ve had and the music we’ve played over the last few months is really the opposite,” Keane said.
Charli himself had hinted that he was exploring the use of string instruments to give a different texture to his new songs.
Although he admitted that he felt “empty and barren” creatively after the massive success in 2024, Charli XCX seems to have found new energy through the world of cinema which he is currently also playing.
Speculation about commercial failure also did not make him flinch. Charli joked that the next album might not explode on the market, but he admitted that he was very prepared for all possibilities in order to pursue a purer artistic satisfaction.
