A fourth-generation farmer from Norfolk has won Britain’s Got Talent.
Ben Brooke performed in the Hawkstone Farmers Choir, which became the first choir to win the long-running ITV show on Saturday.
Their uplifting audition, singing the Elbow anthem One Day Like This, won the “golden buzzer” from judge Amanda Holden, which propelled them into the live semi-finals.
They won their semi-final with a rendition of Pompeii by Bastille on May 23, before they took home the overall crown in the final episode of the series.
The last time they took to the stage, they performed an original song called This Is Home, which brought Holden to tears.
“You’ve made me cry again,” she said. “I couldn’t be prouder of you.”
TV presenter and celebrity farmer, Jeremy Clarkson, who initially formed the choir, was also emotional in the audience as he clapped along.
After finding out they had come first, they dedicated their performance to farmers across the nation, and encouraged people to speak up if they are struggling.
As part of their prize, they will perform at the Royal Variety Show in front of King Charles.
They will also take home £25,000 cash.
Ben Brooke, 35, lives in West Bilney, between Swaffham and King’s Lynn, and works on his family’s 2,500-acre arable business DH Deptford Farms, based near March in Cambridgeshire.
Mr Brooke previously said that before joining the choir he had only ever sung for his daughter.
