Miley Cyrus is only 33 years old, but the television show that started her career, Hannah Montana, recently turned 20. To honor the milestone, Disney+ produced a televsied event titled Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special. During the program, Cyrus performed some of the franchise’s most popular smashes, like “The Best of Both Worlds” and “The Climb,” as well as “Younger You,” a tune she wrote and recorded specifically for the event.
Consumption of all Hannah Montana albums skyrocketed thanks to the TV special, and this week, the character sends multiple projects back to one Billboard tally and even manages to collect a new top 10.
Hannah Montana 2 Debuts Inside the Top 10
Montana – whose chart wins are lagrely tied into Cyrus’s, though for the purposes of these achievements, the character is counted as a separate musical artist – launches one title on Billboard’s Kid Albums ranking, which looks at the most successful releases aimed at younger audiences. Hannah Montana 2 opens at No. 8, earning the faux pop star her eighth top 10 on the tally.
Throughout the years, Montana has pushed nine projects with her name attached to the Kid Albums ranking, and only one has missed out on cracking the highest tier. Disney’s Karaoke Series: Hannah Montana 2 peaked at No. 14. This frame, the original Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack beats that set and becomes a top 10 winner.
Multiple Hannah Montana Albums Return to the Same Chart
Four full-lengths by Montana appear on the Kid Albums chart this week, but only Hannah Montana 2 is new to the tally. The original Hannah Montana joins its successor inside the highest reaches of the roster as it breaks back in at No. 6. Meanwhile, Hannah Montana: The Movie and Hannah Montana: Forever relaunch at Nos. 11 and 14, respectively.
Several Hannah Montana Albums Have Led the Charge
Montana’s trio of comebacks have all previously ruled the Kid Albums chart, all except for Hannah Montana: Forever, which is unusually not counted in the character’s catalog of hits on this one list – though Cyrus does claim it.
The first Hannah Montana soundtrack, which launched in November 2006, spent 24 weeks running the show. That is the singer’s longest streak at No. 1, and Hannah Montana stands out as the set with the most time spent on the roster, with 146 stays to its name. Hannah Montana: The Movie is one of two projects by the character to only manage one stint at No. 1. The soundtrack that accompanied the feature-length film, a spinoff from the TV series, launched on the Kid Albums chart in January 2011, but it didn’t soar all the way to the summit until August of 2024.
Hannah Montana Albums Miss Billboard’s Major Charts
When Hannah Montana was still on television, it wasn’t unusual for any albums that came from the series to appear on some of Billboard’s more competitive charts, like the Billboard 200 or the Top Album Sales list. Tellingly, while Hannah Montana projects invade the Kid Albums ranking, they are nowhere to be found on more general rosters, which suggests that while these releases did become much more popular than they were only a few days ago, they do not rank among the most successful releases in the nation.
