Olivia Rodrigo Announces New Album ‘You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love’

Olivia Rodrigo has announced that her new album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” will be released on June 12 via Geffen Records.

The singer revealed the news on Instagram, which she wiped yesterday in anticipation of the album announcement. “My third album ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’ is out June 12th,” she wrote in the caption. “I am so proud of this record and I can’t wait for you to hear it. available for preorder now! 🩷” The post also included the album cover, which shows Rodrigo upside-down on a swing.

Rodrigo recorded the album with producer Dan Nigro, with whom she worked on her first two albums “Sour” and “Guts.” Little is known about the album itself other than what she’s teased over the past month or so. Fans searching for clues noticed changes in color on the background of her website and her “OR” logo, an aesthetic that also appeared on a mural in Los Angeles and a lock found in London with the word “April” inside.

During an interview with British Vogue last month, she touched on the process for the new record, explaining that it was a “creative challenge to write from a joyful place. When you’re experiencing that you’re connected to someone, or feeling really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!” She shared three songs with the Vogue writer, who described the tracks as “instantly transporting, cinematic and so intimate.” Rodrigo said that they’re all “sad love songs” and added, “I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them.”

Rodrigo first emerged onto the music scene in 2021 with “Sour” and its colossal first single “Driver’s License.” She followed with “Guts” in 2023, and last year performed at several music festivals including Governors Ball and Glastonbury.
