North West is living her best life at Coachella, but not everyone thinks it’s appropriate for the 12-year-old to be there. After a video of North went viral on Instagram, fans sarcastically called her parents, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, “parents of the year” for exposing the pre-teen to the iconic music festival at such a young age.
Kardashian and her boyfriend, Lewis Hamilton, brought North to Coachella on April 11 to see Justin Bieber perform, per E! News. On April 13, People shared a video on Instagram of North meeting famous Love Island USA couple, Olandria Carthen and Nic Vasteenberghe, at the festival. In the clip, North was dressed in an all-black outfit with neon blue hair. She approached Olandria and is seen giving her a hug, while Olandria told her, “You’re such a cool kid, bro.” Later, North giggled and covered her mouth as she took a picture in the middle of Nic and Olandria.
The cute encounter was dampened by the fact that people were wondering how North even knew who Nic and Olandria were, as they starred on a reality series rated TV-MA for sexually explicit content. Not to mention, the fact that she was at the music festival at all raised eyebrows.
“😢 12 yo. Yaaaay parents of the year!” one person commented on the post. Another sarcastically wrote, “12 yr old at Coachella… Excellent parenting 👏 👍.” Someone else said, “North ahould NOT know who they are!”
“Cuz 12 year olds should be watching Love Island, wearing grills, piercings, hanging out in adult clubs with adults & roaming Coachella. 🙄🙄” someone else wrote, referring to North’s controversial piercings and diamond grills.
Even rapper Young Thug questioned Kardashian and West’s parenting choice about allowing North to come to Coachella. During his set on April 12, the “Trance” rapper asked from the stage, “What’s up, North? How you doing? Where [are] your parents?” per Complex.
Later, he encouraged the crowd to cheer for North. “I want y’all to make some noise for North,” he said. “She in this motherf—er. Like, you just casually out, just casually having fun. Like, what are you doing?”
Neither the SKIMS founder nor West have addressed the backlash so far.
