Michael Jackson

During his career, Michael Jackson wrote and recorded music that in some cases defied genres, and in other instances perfectly encapsulated what one style was all about. He’s known as the King of Pop, but he also produced smashes that can be classified as R&B and dance, among others.

Michael Jackson Scores Six Top 10 Hits“P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” and “Remember The Time”

In the United Kingdom, Jackson often appears on the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles tally, which looks at the bestselling tracks that are labeled R&B, hip-hop, and rap. Following the incredible success of the musician’s biopic Michael at the box office, the late star’s music is on the rise across the charts in the country He scores new big wins on a variety of tallies and even another bestselling album, but when it comes to songs, Jackson performs spectacularly well on the hip-hop and R&B-leaning rundown.

Michael Jackson Scores Six Top 10 Hits

On the current edition of the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart, Jackson claims six of the spots within the top 10. That means that more than a decade after his passing, the superstar is responsible for 60% of the 10 biggest hits in those genres.

Jackson’s highest-ranking smash at the moment is “Dirty Diana,” which jumps from No. 21 to No. 4. “Human Nature” comes next, and it reenters the tally at No. 5. Jackson closes out the region by appearing at Nos. 7 through 10 with “Smooth Criminal,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Rock With You,” and “Man In The Mirror,” respectively.

Looking at the full 40 spaces that comprise the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart, another four cuts by Jackson make space this frame. He occupies a quarter of the entire roster this frame.

Jackson’s “Thriller,” “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing),” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” land at Nos. 14, 16, and 19, respectively, after not finding space on the rundown just a few days ago. Closer to the bottom of the list comes “Remember The Time,” which is back at No. 34.

Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature” Hits a New Peak
Of Jackson’s 10 current hits on the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart, two climb higher than ever before. “Human Nature” and “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” establish new peaks this week.

“Dirty Diana,” his biggest win at the moment, nearly manages the same performance, but instead it returns to No. 4, its previously-set best showing. “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” has topped out at No. 18 in the past. This time around, that cut comes in one space beneath its previous peak.

Michael Jackson Now Claims 25 Top 10 Smashes
“Human Nature” isn’t just another top 10 hit for Jackson, it’s a milestone win. The cut, which has now spent five frames on the roster, coincidentally reenters at No. 5, its new peak. The late superstar scores his milestone twenty-fifth trip to the uppermost region. Seven of those 25 cuts have surged all the way to No. 1.

Here are all of Michael Jackson’s No. 1s on the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart.

  • “Blood on the Dance Floor”
  • “Don’t Matter to Me” with Drake
  • “Man in the Mirror”
  • “One More Chance”
  • “Scream” with Janet Jackson
  • “Why” with 3T
  • “You Rock My World”

“P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” and “Remember The Time”

16 songs by Jackson live on at least one list across the Atlantic this week. 11 of them debut on one ranking, if not several, and five establish new highs on rosters they’ve appeared on before, either by climbing or reappearing. Only two of those smashes, “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” and “Remember The Time,” make a home on just one roster, and it is the Official Hip Hop and R&B Singles chart.
