The doting dad performed alongside his 14-year-old daughter on July 10 at Yankee Stadium

Jay-Z is one very proud dad! The award-winning star was joined on the first night of his New York City residency by his oldest daughter, Blue Ivy, 14, and it’s safe to say he enjoyed every moment.

The talented teen played the piano while Jay-Z sang “Feelin’ It“, just after a montage of videos were played on screen showing Blue at the piano during different stages of her childhood.

When asked by People at the Michael Rubin’s Fantastic Fest luncheon on Friday July 17 about performing with his daughter, he had the sweetest answer. “What was the highlight performing with your daughter at Yankee stadium?” he was asked, to which he replied: “You said it.” He then added, “That ain’t even a question,” confirming the importance of the moment.

Introducing his daughter as her nickname “Azure” which means blue in Spanish, Jay then told the sold-out stadium: “Make some noise for the legendary Blue Ivy Carter.”

Blue’s family have opened up about her piano playing ability on several occasions, with Jay-Z recently telling GQ that his daughter didn’t want to get a teacher as she enjoys playing for pleasure.

“She won’t let us get her a teacher. She doesn’t want it to be a job. But she has perfect pitch. If she hears a song, she’ll be like ‘Play it again’ and then she’ll teach herself,” he said.

“That’s just talent. She doesn’t work at that. She worked at this [dancing on stage], and it makes me proud that she fought for something that she really wanted to do. I don’t think we’re going to be able to get her off that stage now.”

Blue’s proud grandmother, Tina Knowles, shared footage from the special moment on social media shortly after the concert, admitting that it had left her “in tears”. She wrote: “This had me in tears. The close bond , love and respect that this father and daughter have for each other is contagious . Our little Blue Blue on Keys . ‘Baby I paint the sky Blue My greatest creation was you Blue,’ ‘Glory’.”

While this was the first time joining her dad on stage, Blue is no stranger to participating in Beyoncé’s concerts. Fans have enjoyed seeing her journey from her very first performance during the Renaissance World Tour back in 2023, to the Cowboy Carter Tour in 2025 – where she was one of the backup dancers.

Jay-Z reflected on Blue’s growth, adding: “That was amazing. On the first tour, there was a lot of conversation around her first performance, and she worked really hard to get to that point, but she still wasn’t going for it. “She still was going through the motions. And then she just started fighting back,” he continued.

“I saw her fight maybe for the first time in her life – like, not everything is just given to her and everything is easy. She fought for it.” “She’s almost on every number. I had to take her off some, like, ‘Man, you can’t be on that stage when [Beyoncé’s] singing ‘Six-inch heels’… are you crazy?'” the rapper added.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z are also proud parents to nine-year-old twins, Rumi and Sir. While Sir prefers to keep out of the spotlight, Rumi joined her mom and sister during the Cowboy Carter World Tour in 2025.
