Prince Harry travelled to Britain to promote the 2027 Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham, but the trip was reportedly beset by a series of setbacks that affected plans for his family to spend time in the country.
Royal correspondent Russell Myers told People that the visit “turned into a nightmare” after security concerns allegedly forced Meghan, 44, and the couple’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to return to California earlier than expected.
According to a source quoted by the publication, Meghan would have felt “humiliated” watching Prince Harry and the royal institution disagree over arrangements for the family’s stay in Britain. Another insider said the Duchess of Sussex remains supportive of her husband despite the disappointing outcome.
“There’s a lot of sadness,” the source claimed, adding that Meghan “always lets him lead” when it comes to navigating his relationship with the Royal Family.
During the week-long visit, Prince Harry carried out engagements connected to the Invictus Games. Reports also suggested the Sussexes were not provided with taxpayer-funded security during the trip, while Buckingham Palace was said to have withdrawn an offer for the family to stay at a royal residence, leaving Prince Harry to spend much of the visit on his own.
Although Meghan did not attend Prince Harry’s Invictus Games engagement, reports said she and the couple’s children later joined him for a private reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House.
